Hello IRSAMers,

Hope your holidays were fabulous and everyone is ready to welcome the new year! IRSAM has a whole bunch of things going on this month, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled to see how you can get involved this year!

  3. In-House and Training - McMUN This Week

1. SSUNS 2010 Secretariat Application

The Secondary Schools' United Nations Symposium (SSUNS) is currently recruiting secretariat members for its 2010 conference.  SSUNS 2009 was a huge success, attracting approximately 1000 high school and CEGEP delegates from across North America for a fun and educational weekend of debate.  Being on the Secretariat for SSUNS 2010 is a great opportunity for IRSAMers to get involved in Canada's premier Model UN conference for high school students.
We are currently recruiting for the following positions: Undersecretary-General, Committee Affairs; Undersecretary-General, Financial Affairs; Undersecretary-General, Information and Technology; Chargé(e) d'Affaires; Director of Public Relations; Chief of Staff and Chief of Operations.  The attached application contains information on each of the aforementioned positions and is due on January 19th at 6pm.
If you have any questions, please contact Olga Redko, Secretary-General.

2. McMUN!

McMUN is just 25 days away! If you need an excuse letter for missing a participation based class, conference or lab, please email excuseletters@mcmun.orgwith your full name, student number, professor's name, class name and course code, and time of the class. In the subject line, please write committees if you are a committees staffer or logistics if you are a logistical staffer. The deadline is Tuesday, January 19, but please act early!

McMUN is still looking for logistical staffers. If you are interested in paging, writing for The Ambassador or working for security, please email Nida Nizam.

3) McMUN In-House

McMUN committees trainings begin this week! The first in-house is scheduled for this Tuesday, January 5th at 6:30 pm in room 302 of Shatner. The following committees will chair at the first in-house:

  • United Nations Commission for Science and Technology for Development
  • United Nations Commission on the Status of Women

Please look at the attached background guide before the in-house so that you will be prepared both to chair and to participate in the debate. Director, vice-chair, and chair trainings will occur on Saturday January 9th in the Lev Bukhman room in Shatner. Director training will be from 1-2 pm, vice-chair training from 2-3 pm, and chair training from 3-4 pm. These trainings are mandatory for all non-crisis chairs, vice-chairs, and directors. The first crisis training is scheduled for Sunday, January 10th, from 1-3 pm in the Lev Bukhman room in Shatner. This training is mandatory for all crisis staffers, vice-chairs, chairs, and directors.  If you are unable to make these trainings, please email Molly. Vice-Chairs do not have to stay for the Chair training on January 9th, however they are more than welcome to.
