One of the platforms IRSAM offers for students to actively engage in international relations is achieved through the forum of Model United Nations. Model UN, or “MUN,” allows students to portray different political roles, represent diverse perspectives, engage in debate on substantive topics. Students are provided the opportunity through Model UN to participate in this critical dialog on international issues and find solutions to problems the international community has faced in the past, is currently facing, and will face as issues arise in the future. More importantly, Model UN lays the groundwork to prepare these students to be future world leaders.
IRSAM Hosts Three Annual Conferences
Secondary Schools' United Nations Symposium (SSUNS)
Secondary Schools’ United Nations Symposium (SSUNS) is IRSAM’s high school conference that presents a unique opportunity for students at a young age to participate in diplomatic discussions as they distinguish themselves as young leaders.
It began with a simple idea with the hope of creating a place for high school students to explore the scope of global issues and to offer an opportunity for these students to take part as active young leaders. The reality has gone above and beyond the initial vision for Secondary Schools’ United Nations Symposium, and has only continued to expand and innovate in every possible capacity ever since.
McGill Model United Nations (McMUN)
Celebrating its 29th iteration, McMUN is the largest and most prestigious conference of its kind in Canada and ranks among the top academic events at McGill University.
Its reputation has transcended borders and McMUN has become one of the most highly anticipated and competitive conferences on the international collegiate Model United Nations circuit. It is currently ranked as the number one Model United Nations conference in Canada and all of North America!
Individually, McMUN and SSUNS each bring over 2,000 students from around the world and are staffed by over 500 McGill students each year.
IRSAM hosts International Relations Simulation (IRSim) each fall exclusively for McGill Students. It is the third conference that IRSAM hosts. This internal conference allows McGill students to get involved regardless of their previous MUN experience. This year, IRSim VIII will be held on September 17th from 10am-5pm on the third floor (multiple rooms) in SSMU
