Since its inception, McGill’s traveling Model UN Delegation has been Canada’s number one competitive University Model UN team. In recent years, the McGill Delegation Team has frequently been ranked in the top 25 North American University teams from Best Delegate — breaking into the top 10 rankings in 2017 and 2018. With the team’s diverse background ranging from Model UN to debating experience, there is a spot for anyone passionate about joining the Delegation Team.
Getting Involved with McGill’s Delegation Team
The McGill Delegation Team consists of approximately 35-55 members (year dependant) and are selected by the Team Council after a tryout simulation held at the start of the fall and winter terms of each school year. Team members must commit themselves to meetings and training sessions held twice a week, and can expect many fun and jovial social gatherings. Additionally, delegation members attend on average 1-2 conferences per semester and are required to staff both SSUNS and McMUN: McGill’s high school and university Model UN conferences.
McGill’s traveling Model UN team competes at various university-run conferences across Eastern North America. Some of the conferences include Harvard National Model UN (HNMUN), University of Pennsylvania Model UN Conference (UPMUNC), Georgetown University’s National Collegiate Security Conference (NCSC), University of Virginia’s International Crisis Simulation (VICS), University of Toronto’s North American Model UN (NAMUN), and the Security Council Simulation at Yale University (SCSY). Accommodation, delegation fees, and travel arrangements are all made by the Team Council, and selected members for conference trips simply pay a fee to cover the costs of the trips. Team members who go on conference trips compete against other top university Model UN delegates on the Collegiate Circuit; moreover, they come back having made friends, expanded their contacts, and created life long memories.
