Weekly Update – Nov 29, 2010

Nov 29, 2010   //   by admin   //   News  //  No Comments
Dear IRSAMers,
As we near the conclusion of our first semester, we look back on a number of successful events: the Back-to-School party, the inaugural IRSim 2010 conference, the Run for the Cure, award-winning performances on Delegations trips, a successful SSUNS 2010, while sowing the seeds for a stellar second semester with opportunities for you to become involved through any one of our portfolios! This week, IRSAM wants your feedback on how the semester has progressed for you. Whether you have a suggestion for a Tuesday meeting theme or you would like to share your thoughts on Delegations trips, this Tuesday at 18:30 (Lev Bukhman, 2nd floor SSMU), you will have the chance to be heard! (Additionally, this rather one-sided conversation that you and I have been leading all semester will finally blossom into a full-fledged dialogue!) For more IRSAM, keep reading…

1.1 IRSAM General Meeting
IRSAM wants YOUR feedback!  Have a suggestion for a Tuesday meeting?  Want to see share your insights on delegations?  This Tuesday at 6:30 in Lev Bukhman is your chance to share your thoughts on all things IRSAM at our mid-year feedback round-table!

2.1 IRSAM Journal Call for Editors

IRSAM is looking for an editorial board for its new International Relations Journal. (4 senior editors, 4 junior editors, one design editor)  The application is due Wednesday, January 12, 2011, though individuals are encouraged to apply earlier. It is attached to this email, and also available at www.irsam.ca. If you have any questions, contact Ryan at journal@irsam.ca

2.2 IRSAM Journal Submissions
The new IRSAM journal invites submissions for its 2010-2011 issue. Papers should concern a topic in International Relations, written in any course at McGill, have received a high mark, and be between 5 and 25 pages. The author’s name should not appear anywhere on the submission. Please be sure to note the title of the course and the professor’s name. A maximum number of two submissions per author will be accepted. The deadline for submissions is FRIDAY, JANUARY 28th, 2010. Please send your submissions to journal@irsam.ca

3.1 McMUN 2011: Applications for “The Ambassador”

The 2011 edition of The Ambassador is looking for contributors for the McMUN conference being held here in Montreal from January 27-30. The position will entail covering the events within and surrounding the McMUN conference in a humorous tone (see attached file for sample). We are looking for committed and hardworking individuals who will meet deadlines and will be able to either pitch story ideas or carry out assigned stories. Although the position does require comedy writing, previous comedy writing experience is not necessarily required. In the weeks leading up to the conference, we will be holding a few small workshops to talk about and work on comedy writing. Of course, if you have previous comedy writing experience, that would be a plus. But perhaps more than anything, we are looking for individuals who have strong general writing abilities, a good work ethic, and will be able to devote the time that will be required of them during the two and a half days of the McMUN conference. If you feel you match these criteria, please contact Casey Adams at staff@mcmun.org.
